You walk into the kitchen at 6 AM. The lights come on at 40 percent,
just enough to see without blinding you. The coffee maker starts. The motorized shades
on the east-facing windows open halfway to let in the sunrise. You did not touch a
single switch. That is what a Lutron lighting system does, and it is why more Dallas
homeowners are investing in smart lighting than ever before.
At Complete Elite Technologies, we are a certified Lutron installer
with over 20 years of low-voltage integration experience. We are family-owned, based in
Caddo Mills, TX, and licensed in the state of Texas (Alarm License
#B12702301, ACR #2536735). We install Lutron systems
across Dallas, Rockwall, Frisco, McKinney, Plano, and the entire DFW metroplex.
Why Lutron?
There are dozens of smart lighting products on the market. So why do professional
integrators, including us, recommend Lutron more than any other brand?
- Reliability: Lutron uses its own wireless protocol called Clear
Connect. It does not compete with your Wi-Fi, Bluetooth devices, or your neighbor’s
wireless network. In 20 years of installations, Lutron systems have the lowest failure
rate of any product we install. - No hub dependency issues: If your Lutron processor loses internet,
your lights still work. Schedules still run. Switches still switch. The system operates
locally, unlike most smart home gadgets that stop working when the cloud goes down. - Elegant hardware: Lutron switches, dimmers, and keypads look good
on the wall. They come in dozens of colors to match your decor, and they feel solid, not
like cheap plastic. - Scalability: Start with a few switches in the kitchen and master
bedroom. Add rooms over time. Lutron systems grow with you.
Lutron Caseta vs. RadioRA3: Which One Is Right for Your Home?
Lutron Caseta
Caseta is Lutron’s entry-level system, and “entry-level” is relative because it
outperforms most competitors’ top-tier products. It is ideal for homeowners who want
smart lighting in specific rooms or throughout a smaller home.
- Supports up to 75 devices per Smart Bridge Pro
- Works with Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit, and Sonos
- Pico remotes replace wall switches and can be mounted anywhere
- Excellent for retrofits because it does not require new wiring
- Price range: $50 to $80 per switch/dimmer
Lutron RadioRA3
RadioRA3 is the system we recommend for whole-home control, larger homes, and
homeowners who want the full smart lighting experience.
- Supports up to 200 devices per processor
- Sunnata keypads with customizable button labels and LED backlighting
- Occupancy and vacancy sensors for automatic lighting
- Native integration with motorized shades (Lutron Palladiom and Sivoia)
- Lutron app with scene scheduling, geofencing, and energy monitoring
- Professional programming for custom scenes and automation sequences
- Price range: $150 to $300 per switch/dimmer plus processor ($500 to $800)
Which Should You Choose?
If you want smart lighting in 3 to 10 locations (kitchen, living room, master
bedroom, exterior), Caseta is a great choice at a lower price point. If you want
whole-home control with motorized shades, scenes, and integration with a home automation
system, RadioRA3 is the way to go.
We install both systems regularly and can help you decide based on your home, your
goals, and your budget. For a deeper comparison, see our
Lutron Caseta vs. RadioRA3 comparison.
Motorized Shades: The Other Half of Lighting Control
Controlling your lights is only half the equation. Natural light coming through your
windows has just as much impact on the feel of a room and on your energy bills. Lutron’s
motorized shade systems integrate directly with your lighting control, so you manage
artificial light and natural light from a single interface.
In Dallas, where summer sun turns west-facing rooms into ovens,
motorized solar screens
are a game-changer. Schedule them to lower at 2 PM and rise at 7 PM. The shades block
solar heat before it reaches your glass, which means your AC is not fighting a losing
battle and your furniture is not fading from UV exposure.
We install Lutron Palladiom roller shades for interior use and motorized exterior
solar screens for maximum heat rejection. Both integrate with Caseta and RadioRA3.
Scenes That Change How You Use Your Home
A “scene” is a preset combination of light levels and shade positions that you
activate with one tap. Here are examples of scenes our Dallas clients use every day:
- Good Morning: Kitchen lights to 60 percent, master bathroom vanity
to 80 percent, bedroom shades open, hallway lights on. - Movie Night: Media room lights off, sconces at 10 percent,
shades closed, exterior porch light on. - Entertaining: Kitchen and dining at 70 percent, patio lights at
50 percent, landscape lighting on, pool lights on. - Goodnight: All interior lights off, exterior security lights on,
shades closed, front porch light to 30 percent. - Away: Randomized lighting schedule to make the house look occupied
while you travel.
With RadioRA3, these scenes can be triggered by time of day, sunrise/sunset,
geofencing (when your phone’s GPS detects you leaving or arriving), or a button press
on a Pico remote or keypad.
Energy Savings in Texas
Texas electricity rates have been volatile. Between ERCOT market swings and the shift
toward time-of-use pricing, managing your energy consumption is no longer optional for
budget-conscious homeowners.
Lutron dimming alone can reduce lighting energy use by 20 to 50 percent. When you
combine that with motorized shades that reduce solar heat gain, you are cutting both
lighting and HVAC costs. One Rockwall client of ours documented a 25 percent reduction
in their summer electricity bills after we installed RadioRA3 with motorized exterior
solar screens.
What Does a Lutron System Cost in Dallas?
- Caseta starter (5 to 10 switches, bridge, Pico remotes): $500 to
$1,500 - Caseta whole-home (15 to 25 switches): $2,000 to $4,000
- RadioRA3 (20 to 40 devices, processor, keypads): $5,000 to $15,000
- RadioRA3 with motorized shades (10 to 20 windows): $15,000 to
$40,000
These prices include equipment, professional installation, programming, and a
walkthrough so you understand how to use every feature. We do not subcontract, and
there are no monthly fees.
Why Work With a Certified Lutron Installer?
You can buy Lutron Caseta at a home improvement store and install it yourself. But
RadioRA3 is a dealer-only product that requires professional design and programming.
Even with Caseta, a professional installation ensures proper dimmer compatibility (not
all LED bulbs play nicely with all dimmers), correct wiring, and clean wall plate
finishing.
As a Lutron dealer and installer, we have access to the full product line, including
Palladiom shades and Sunnata keypads, that are not available through retail channels. We
also handle warranty claims directly with Lutron, so you do not have to deal with
customer service phone trees.

If you are considering a broader
home automation system in Dallas,
Lutron lighting control integrates seamlessly with platforms like Control4 and Crestron
for whole-home management.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I install Lutron RadioRA3 in an existing home or only new construction?
RadioRA3 works in both new and existing homes. The system uses
wireless communication between devices, so no new control wiring is needed between
switches. Each switch replaces your existing switch at the electrical box, using the
same wiring already in the wall. The only new wiring might be for motorized shades if
there is no power at the window location.
Do Lutron dimmers work with LED bulbs?
Yes, but not all LED bulbs are compatible with all dimmers. Lutron
maintains a compatibility tool on their website that lists tested bulb and dimmer
combinations. We specify compatible bulbs as part of our installation to ensure smooth,
flicker-free dimming. If you already have LEDs installed, we test compatibility during
our site survey.
How long does a Lutron installation take?
A Caseta system with 10 to 15 switches can be installed in half a day
to a full day. A RadioRA3 system with 30+ devices and motorized shades typically takes
2 to 3 days for installation and programming. We schedule installations to be as
non-disruptive as possible and clean up thoroughly when we are done.
Can I add more Lutron devices later?
Absolutely. Both Caseta and RadioRA3 are designed to expand over time.
Many of our clients start with lighting in the main living areas and add bedrooms,
bathrooms, outdoor lighting, and motorized shades over the following months or years.
We can come back and add devices and reprogram scenes at any time.
