Dallas property crime is not something most people think about until
it happens to them. A neighbor gets a package stolen off the porch. A car gets broken
into in the driveway. Someone rings the doorbell at 3 AM and walks away. That is usually
when the call comes in: “I need cameras.”
At Complete Elite Technologies, security camera installation is one
of our core services. We have been installing camera systems in Dallas-area homes for
over 20 years, and we have seen the technology evolve from grainy analog footage to
crystal-clear 4K resolution with AI-powered analytics. We are a family-owned, licensed
low-voltage integrator headquartered in Caddo Mills, TX. Texas Alarm License
#B12702301. ACR #2536735. 5-star Google rating.
Here is what you should know before you schedule a camera installation.
4K Cameras: Why Resolution Matters
Four or five years ago, 1080p cameras were the standard. They still work, but the gap
between 1080p and 4K is significant when it counts. With a 4K camera, you can zoom into
footage after the fact and still read a license plate, identify a face, or see the logo
on a delivery truck. With 1080p, you get a blurry outline that may not help police or
your insurance company.
We install 4K cameras as our default for new systems. The cost difference between
1080p and 4K has shrunk to the point where there is no good reason to go with lower
resolution on a new install.
NVR vs. Cloud Storage: What Is Right for Your Home?
NVR (Network Video Recorder)
An NVR sits in your home, usually in a closet, utility room, or garage, and stores
all your camera footage locally on a hard drive. Benefits:
- No monthly subscription fees
- You own and control all your footage
- Faster playback and scrubbing through footage
- Works on your local network even if internet goes down
- Typical storage: 30 to 90 days of continuous recording depending on the number of
cameras and hard drive size
Cloud Storage
Some camera systems store footage in the cloud. This means your video is accessible
from anywhere and is safe even if someone steals or destroys the NVR. The downsides:
- Monthly or annual subscription fees ($10 to $30 per month for most services)
- Requires solid internet with good upload speed
- Privacy concerns for some homeowners
Our Recommendation
We typically recommend a local NVR as the primary storage with optional cloud backup
for critical cameras (front door, driveway). This gives you the reliability and speed of
local storage with the off-site backup for your most important footage.
Camera Placement: Where to Put Them
Camera placement is where experience matters more than equipment. We have installed
thousands of camera systems, and we know exactly where to position cameras for maximum
coverage with minimal blind spots. Here are the priority locations for a Dallas home:
- Front door and porch: This is where most package theft and forced
entry attempts happen. A camera here captures faces and activity at your main entry
point. - Driveway and garage: Vehicle break-ins and garage entries are common.
A camera covering the driveway also catches approaching visitors and deliveries. - Back door and patio: The back of the house is often the most
vulnerable because it is less visible from the street. Burglars know this. - Side gates: If your home has side yard access, a camera here catches
anyone trying to reach the backyard without going through the house. - Backyard and pool area: Liability coverage for pool areas, plus
security for outdoor living spaces and equipment.
For larger properties, we add cameras at the property perimeter, detached garages,
workshop entrances, and any other access points. We plan camera placement during our site
survey so you can see exactly what each camera will cover before we install.
What a Professional Installation Includes
Here is what you get when CET installs your camera system, compared to a DIY setup:
- Site survey: We walk your property, identify vulnerabilities, and
design a camera plan with you. - Commercial-grade equipment: We install cameras rated for outdoor
use in Texas heat, with IP67 weatherproofing, IR night vision, and vandal-resistant
housings. - Clean cable runs: All cables are run through walls, attics, or
soffits. No visible wires running down the side of your house. - PoE (Power over Ethernet): Each camera gets power and data through
a single Ethernet cable, which means reliable connections without Wi-Fi dropouts. - NVR setup and configuration: We configure recording schedules,
motion zones, notification alerts, and remote access on your phone. - Testing: Every camera is tested for coverage, night vision quality,
and remote access before we leave.
DIY Cameras vs. Professional Installation
We are not going to tell you that Ring or Wyze cameras are bad products. They have
their place. But here is the honest comparison:
- Wi-Fi cameras drop connection when your network gets busy, during
firmware updates, or when the router reboots. If a camera goes offline during the one
event you needed it for, it was a waste of money. - Battery-powered cameras need recharging every 2 to 3 months and
do not record continuously, only on motion triggers. Motion detection has a delay, which
means the first 1 to 2 seconds of an event are often missed. - Hardwired PoE cameras run 24/7 on a dedicated network connection
with no batteries to charge, no Wi-Fi to drop, and continuous recording so you never
miss a second.

How Much Does a Camera System Cost in Dallas?
- 4-camera system (4K, NVR, installation): $2,500 to $4,500
- 8-camera system (4K, NVR, installation): $4,000 to $7,500
- 12 to 16 cameras (4K, NVR, commercial-grade): $7,000 to $14,000
These prices include equipment, all cabling, NVR with hard drive, professional
installation, phone app setup, and a walkthrough so you know how to use your system.
No monthly monitoring fees required, although we can integrate with monitoring if
you want it.
Residential vs. Commercial Camera Systems
We install camera systems for both homes and businesses. Commercial installations
typically require more cameras, higher storage capacity, integration with
access control systems,
and sometimes analytics features like people counting or license plate recognition. If
you need cameras for a commercial property, we can design a system that fits your
specific requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I view my security cameras remotely from my phone?
Yes. Every system we install includes remote access through a
smartphone app. You can view live feeds, play back recorded footage, receive motion
alerts, and control PTZ cameras from anywhere with an internet connection. We set up the
app on your phone during installation and make sure everything works before we leave.
How many cameras does a typical Dallas home need?
Most single-story homes in Dallas need 4 to 6 cameras for solid
coverage: front door, driveway, back door, side gate, and backyard. Two-story homes or
larger properties with pools, detached garages, or multiple access points typically need
8 to 12 cameras. We design the layout during a free site survey so you get complete
coverage without paying for cameras you do not need.
Do security cameras work at night?
All cameras we install include infrared (IR) night vision that
provides clear black-and-white footage in complete darkness, typically up to 100 feet.
Some models also offer color night vision using a built-in spotlight, which gives you
color footage at night and can deter trespassers. We recommend the best option based on
each camera’s location and purpose.
